Ideal Body Weight (IBW) is a target weight range derived from formulas that correlate height and gender with health outcomes. While it provides a useful baseline, it does not account for muscle mass, bone density, or overall body composition.
The Devine formula is the most widely used method for calculating IBW. It was originally developed in 1974 by Dr. Ben Devine to estimate dosages for certain medications, but has since become a standard for general health assessment.
